20210727 meteor in norway Tile

Norwegian experts say an unusually large meteor has been seen over parts of southern Scandinavia and illuminated southeast Norway with a powerful flash of light for a few seconds as many observers were reported to also hear a roaring sound afterwards.

The Norwegian Meteor Network said that it had analysed and reviewed several videos of the event on Sunday and said the meteor first appeared about 90km north of the capital Oslo and continued its trail in a southwest direction before fragmenting in several flashes of light.

"The meteor appeared at 1.08am on the night of July 25 and was visible for approximately for five seconds," the network said, which had posted a video on the phenomenon on its Twitter site.

Sightings of meteors - space rocks that burn brightly after entering the earth's atmosphere at high speed - aren't uncommon over Norway and the Norwegian Meteor Network has a number of cameras continuously monitoring the sky.

A meteor that survives passage to the ground is known as a meteorite.

Preliminary data suggested a meteorite may have hit earth in a large forested area, Finnemarka, not far from Oslo, the Norwegian Meteor Network said.

Dieter Brummer, who played 90s heartthrob Shane Parish on Home and Away, has died aged 45.

Police say the circumstances were not suspicious.

The sad news was announced on Facebook by family friend Steve Comey.

“Heartbreaking news,” he wrote. “We have lost a free spirit. Vale Dieter Brummer. Way too young. Way too soon. My sincerest, deepest condolences to his beautiful sister Karlene and all of Dieters family & friends. Keep flying young fella.”

Brummer played Shane for four years on Home and Away opposite Melissa George in the early to mid 90s and won a Silver Logie for most popular actor in 1995 and again in 1996.

He also appeared in the Underbelly series, Rescue Special Ops, Winners and Losers and a stint on Neighbours in 2011.

A Gold Coast teen has struck gold after her video of a puffy Doritos chip went viral on TikTok and has attracted bids of more than $100,000 on eBay.

Rylee Stuart from Coomera, Queensland posted a simple video of her find on TikTok with the text, “I found a puff Dorito! Is this valuable or should I just eat it? 😭 Tell me please."

In response to one comment saying she should sell it, she decided to post another video of her taking photos of the chip and posting it to eBay.

The comment, comparing her find to an Among Us shaped chicken nugget said:

"Sell it for 5000 dollars cos someone found an among us shapes nugget in a bus meal and are selling for 5000”

Inspired, Stuart then replied with:

"Ok, so at the start I looked at this comment as a joke, but then I actually thought you know what, why don’t I do it? So, let’s go.”

After posting the puffy corn chip on eBay starting at $1, the 13-year-old then posted a follow-up video saying:

"Guys it’s at 20,000 and if this is real I’m gonna cry but for now I’m gonna keep stable just in case the one cancels it but omg.”

According to reports, the bidding topped at $AU135,804 but it has since been removed. Impressed with the story, Doritos Chief Marketing Officer, Vanita Pandey saw the attention the teen gained and offered her $20,000 USD for her ‘boldness and entrepreneurial spirit.’

Pandey said, "We’ve been so impressed with Rylee’s boldness and entrepreneurial spirit, so we wanted to make sure the Stuart family were rewarded for their creativity and love for Doritos."

It seems the virality of the puffed Doritos chip has inspired others, with a current copycat listing on eBay, also listed as 'Puffy Dorito one of a kind!' going for $18,000 AUD (at the time of writing). The listing has 20 bids and postage is a bargain in comparison at $15.75.

We may not be able to travel at the moment but when we can, we will be able to experience some of the weirdest and wonderful things in the magnificent country of Japan.

There's no doubt that most of those unusual things were in the beautiful city of Tokyo. It's in the capital that you often see people dressed in Manga themed Cosplay in the streets or the most futuristic sights that will make you think you have travelled through time to the year 2032 or beyond.

Here are 5 amazing things you'll find in Tokyo that need to be seen to be believed.

1: Go to a Robot Restaurant

It's true Japan is known for its amazing futuristic technology and Tokyo itself feels like it's straight out of a "Blade Runner" movie but to get the real experience go to the restaurant completely run by robots. Like all cool things in Japan it's located in a basement in Shinjuku’s Kabukicho district. For around ¥7,000 entry fee you can experience dining with quirky giant robots throughout a 90-minute show each night.

2: Experience the Cat Cafe

Tokyo has a number of cafes where you can go and experience tea or coffee while you pet the animals at the cafes. Owning a pet can be difficult in crazy city life, so having the ability to go and interact with one then hand it back is a wonderful idea. It's a bit like being an uncle, nice to see the kids, but hand them back an hour later and go off to a bar with your mates. Cat Cafes seem to be the most popular around the Shinjuku area but you can also see other animal cafes, like Owls, Bunnies or the Hedgehog café in Harajuku.

3: Sleep in the Capsule Hotel

Looking for a quick nap, experience life inside a bubble with the capsule hotels. While mainly available for Men only there have been female-only hotels open up. Be warned though, they are small and of varied quality, so don't expect that futuristic spaceship look that you see in pictures at all of them.

Some just look like a 1970s microwave oven and are about as comfortable.

4: The Ninja Restuarant

The moment you walk into the ninja restaurant in Akasaka you know you are in for a treat. There are no visible doors, the waiter claps their hands and a ninja drops down from a hole that opens in the ceiling to escort you through a hidden tunnel across a spiked bridge all before taking you to your seat where you experience food that is magical and entertaining. Ninjas will also perform tricks as you dine. A fully immersive experience that will have you talking about it for years to come.

5: Do real-life Mario Kart on the streets of Tokyo

A heart-pumping way to see the city via a go-kart. Although not officially licenced by Nintendo once you put the outfit on and enter your vehicle you really forget that it is "inspired by".

We don't recommend dropping banana peels though, there are strict littering laws in Japan.
