Two Pinocchio movies are being made right now - a live action from Disney and a stop motion version from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.
Netflix has just released the first teaser trailer for del Toro’s adaption and it looks positively magical!
We all know the tale of the wooden marionette who wants to live as a boy, but if you’re familiar with del Toro’s work, you’ll know to expect something a little different. As the trailer hints: "It’s a story you may think you know, but you don’t.”
del Toro reinvents Carlo Collodi's classic tale of the wooden marionette who is magically brought to life in order to mend the heart of a grieving woodcarver named Geppetto. This whimsical, stop-motion film directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson follows the mischievous and disobedient adventures of Pinocchio in his pursuit of a place in the world.
It features an all-star cast including Gregory Mann as the voice of Pinocchio, Ewan McGregor as Cricket and David Bradley as Geppetto. Other cast includes Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton.
The film is set for release in selected theatres in November 2022 ahead of being available to stream on Netflix in December.
Disney's version looks great too!
Disney's version, directed by Robert Zemeckis, will be released in September on the streaming platform. It stars Tom Hanks stars as Geppetto, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Pinocchio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket.
Obviously it will have a very different feel but with such a beloved tale, we think there's plenty of room for both adaptations.

Instagram has recently released a new update which has been slowly rolling out to users with its purpose to focus on videos and less on photos but has copped a heap of backlash from the public with over 200 thousand people signing a petition called "Make Instagram Instagram again" and has backing from high profile users such as Kylie Jenner and Kim K herself!
The backlash has mainly centred around the fact that Instagram is becoming more and more like TikTok rather than sticking to its heritage of photos but Head of the gram, Adam Mosseri responded on his Twitter account addressing these issues.
👋🏼 There’s a lot happening on Instagram right now.

I wanted to address a few things we’re working on to make Instagram a better experience.
Please let me know what you think 👇🏼 pic.twitter.com/x1If5qrCyS
His response was typically centred around the fact that the company is being driven by its data which indicates that videos are growing and growing rapidly on the platform which is why the company is deciding to focus its attention on that medium. Adam also admitted that "It's not yet good, and we're going to have to get it to a good place if we're going to ship it to the rest of the Instagram community." Expanding on that, he went on to say that he, "believes that more and more of Instagram is going to become videos" which indicates that these changes will not be reversed.
The post that kicked off the whole campaign from @illumitati has now had over 2 million likes, 40 thousand comments and countless of shares and reposts.
Will the social media giant cave and listen to the disgruntled users or will it continue to be driven by data?

Australian WNBA star Liz Cambage has agreed a contract divorce with the Los Angeles Sparks.
The four-time All-Star centre's future is unknown.
"It is with support that we share Liz Cambage's decision to terminate her contract with the organisation," Sparks managing partner Eric Holoman said. "We want what's best for Liz and have agreed to part ways amicably. The Sparks remain excited about our core group and are focused on our run towards a 2022 play-off berth."
The split follows a turbulent period for the 30-year-old who quit playing for the Opals after withdrawing from the Australian team citing mental health concerns ahead of the Tokyo Olympics after being embroiled in claims of racism.
It was claimed she told Nigerian players to "go back to your third world country" during a stormy pre-Tokyo warm-up match and called them 'monkeys'.
Cambage said via social media that she was "disappointed and hurt", rejecting the report of the incident as "inaccurate and misleading".
"I did not use the racial slur towards the Nigerian team that has been circulating," Cambage posted on Instagram.
Cambage was independently investigated and issued a formal reprimand - but not suspended or fined - after the altercation.
The report also alleged before the match, Cambage, whose father is Nigerian, had told a Nigeria player she wished she was playing for them because her Australian teammates were racists.
Cambage averaged 13.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 25 games (24 starts) in her first season in L.A.
She posted 11 points, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals in 22 minutes Saturday as the Sparks (12-15) lost 84-66 at Las Vegas.
Cambage has career averages of 15.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 167 games (137 starts) with the Tulsa Shock (2011, 2013), Dallas Wings (2018), Aces (2019, 2021) and Sparks.
The 6ft 8in Australian set the WNBA single-game scoring record with 53 points against the New York Liberty on July 17, 2018.

If you’re looking for love, it seems pets make you more attractive to potential partners.
According to a recent survey from Aussie dating site eharmony, one in two Aussies say they’re more attracted to a person who owns a pet, especially if it’s the same type of pet as they own themselves.
And if it’s a rescue rather than bought from a pet shop, that's even better.
You should also put your pet in your profile picture for some added swoon.
You’ve got to have the right type of pet though - the most attractive animals for a new love match are dogs, cats, birds and rabbits. If you own a dog or cat, you’re seen as dependable, loyal, affectionate and smart.
But crocodiles, snakes and rats are a real turn-off. (Seriously, who has a pet crocodile...apart form maybe Robert Irwin?) The majority of respondents associate cold-blooded pets, and their owners, with traits like rudeness, shallowness and selfishness.
Nearly three-quarters of people surveyed think pets contribute to a healthy relationship. Which makes sense when you think that pets are associated with high levels of affection and empathy, which are key ingredients for sustaining relationships.
eharmony psychologist Sharon Draper said it was particularly interesting that the majority of those surveyed felt how someone treats their pet is a strong indicator of how they would be in a relationship.
"At eharmony, we know that compatible matches are the secret to long-term relationship success and pets can be a great indicator of this. Beyond that, more than three-quarters of participants said pet ownership signified a person’s ability to handle commitment," Sharon said.
It’s not surprising either that nearly three-quarters of pet owners say it’s extremely important for a potential partner to get on with their four-legged friend.
But not everyone agreed that pets are a sure-fire way to attract a partner. About a third of respondents said pets can make relationships harder because of issues like fighting over pet training or whether the dog is allowed to sleep in bed.
"These challenges that our furry friends pose to our relationships can also be seen as an opportunity to check-in regarding your values and see if you’re on the same page," Sharon said.
And if you’re not both on the same page?
Time to send that love interest to the doghouse before they get too comfy. And then invite your dog onto the sofa for some cuddles!
