There is no one-size-fits-all approach to losing weight and people may shed more kilos in the long term by working with their "diet type".

That's the message from a new study which identified six major diet approaches among more than 245,000 Australian respondents.

The two most common types of dieters are "thinkers" and "battlers", according to the report published by the CSIRO, Australia's leading science agency, on Monday.

Making up 14.1 per cent of the study's respondents, "thinkers" are goal-oriented, motivated and analytical.

But they're also sensitive to negative feedback that can lead to stress or anxiety, which could ultimately derail their diet.

"Battlers" make up 12.8 per cent of respondents, who are likely find themselves regularly tempted by food and prone to stress and worry.

As a result, they need strategies to help break the cycle and achieve long-term success in their diet, according to the study.

The study's lead author, CSIRO research scientist Dr Emily Brindal, said it was important for Australians trying to lose weight to learn more about their diet types.

"Too often diets are developed with a one-size-fits-all approach that ignores the fact that some people behave or think differently to others," Dr Brindal said.

"Working with your diet type could help you achieve better weight loss outcomes in the longer term."

The four other common diet types identified are "cravers", "pleasers", "foodies" and "socialisers".

"Cravers" have the highest body mass index, according to the study, and are likely to experience strong food cravings that may lead to overeating in "tricky" food-related settings.

"Pleasers" are likeable and friendly people who could also be sensitive to social comparisons, which can make them feel like they are not doing well.

"Foodies" are passionate about all things food, including the experience of preparing and eating good quality meals.

The study found that "foodies" love variety and have the best diet quality of all six types.

Finally, "socialisers" are those who need flexibility to prevent diet restrictions from stifling social occasions or 'killing the mood' of an event.

"We are seeing people cope differently with COVID-19 stresses and uncertainty, which has included disruptions to health, fitness and social routines," Dr Brindal said.

"We hope to help people achieve greater success on their journey to rediscover their health by playing to their individual strengths while also helping them to gain better control over their weaknesses."

Some people are convinced it’s a real-life creepy figure, which isn’t helped by the scary music that goes with the footage.

One commenter tried to add to the mystery, saying, “That’s in figures lake.. a lot of children died there…”

And some saw the funny side, with one commenter saying: “Yo that’s my grandpa I’ve been searching for him for days, thanks man."

Even if you’re not convinced, it might make you think twice about going under a dark overpass at night.

Or perhaps you’ve just got an overactive imagination and are suffering from Pareidolia - the ability to see faces in objects.

Caitríona Balfe, best known for playing Claire Fraser on Outlander, has given birth to a baby boy after keeping the whole pregnancy under wraps.

The Irish actress made the announcement on Instagram.

She wrote, "I’ve been off socials for a while as I was taking some time to enjoy cooking up this little human."

"We are so grateful for this little soul. That he chose us as his parents. I’m in awe of him already and can’t help stare and wonder at all the possibilities of who he will become, where he will go and what he’ll do on the big adventure of his life."

Caitríona took sharing the good news as an opportunity to urge her followers to support those less privileged, linking to a number of charities and not-for-profits including Unicef, World Child Cancer, Choose Love and the UN Refugee Agency.

"Right now he seems so small and fragile and I constantly think how grateful I am that I live in a place, in a time where he is born into peace and safety and yet at the same time I see so many in the world right now that aren’t afforded that same privilege and opportunity … who are born into famine or war and how unjust it is that the same safety isn’t there for all children."

"Here in the west we have so much, we are so lucky and so if you’d like to join me in supporting any of the wonderful charities that need help trying to give those that are forgotten dignity and hope, we can give the gift of peace and safety and opportunity to a few more children."

Balfe's Outlander co-star Sam Heughan (aka hunky Jamie Frasier) took to socials to congratulate her, commenting "Congrats you two (3!!!). Wonderful sentiment. x".

rude wedding invite ScaredNapkin header

A cousin of a couple who received an invite to their wedding has shared the card in question to Reddit which has since gone viral for the colourful and blunt language used.
The card which has been called 'tacky' and 'trashy' calls guests fat and lazy and tells them to leave their children at home or they’ll be turned away.

Reddit user ScaredNapkin posted the photo to the 'Wedding Shaming' thread where it has received almost 2K comments. They wrote:

"My cousin sent this along with her wedding invitations… I will not be in attendance."

Warning if you keep reading, as the language is quite vulgar!

Firstly, the top of the card reads, “**** You Need to Know” with a set of instructions that are quite blunt.

Reddit users quickly flocked to the comments section, one writing, "That's one aggressive invitation."

Another questioned the tone of language used, saying they are okay with swearing but the language should be more inviting. They wrote:

"I am a vigorous swear word user and defender of their use, because they serve a specific and valuable purpose – to put people off. Not the tone you want on a wedding invitation. I'd think you'd want that to be more... inviting?"

More users tried to understand the funny side of the invite but still weren't impressed. One thought it was cringy and they were trying too hard to be cool. They said:

"So much cringe. Trying far too hard to be cool."

Others thought the invite came across mean spirited and wrote:

"I get it's supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek kinda joke.. but my god tone is important! "Check your child at the door" or "you know we get good food, dont worry about it" would be kinda funny. This is just mean spirited"

I get trying to be funny but this is a bit over the top and much. I honestly wouldnt want to go if i got this.

When asked if the wedding card was sent to only amongst friends and not everyone, the original poster said it was sent to everyone. They asked:

So did everyone get this? Like extended family and elderly family members??? If it's just amongst friends then okay I guess, but if it got sent out to everyone then... Cringe

The original poster then responded with:

"As far as I know this is the invite they sent to everyone"
