If you’ve ever scrolled away on TikTok, you’ve probably heard this viral song. The muso who recorded it has posted a video talking about the money he’s made from it and it turns out it’s quite a lot!
In 2015, Tom Rosenthal, an English singer-songwriter and composer recorded a cover of the song ‘Home’ by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Five years later, in September 2020, his rendition of the song blew up and went viral on TikTok, already being used in 1.6 million videos.
In a video he posted to TikTok, Rosenthal replied to a comment asking him “Did you make about 38p from royalties? Genuinely curious.” In his caption, he replies with “let’s talk MONEY!”
The 35-year-old explains in the clip that when the song became popular, he was approached by almost every record label wanting to have a piece of it, however he declined. He says:
"When this song kind of exploded in a big way, pretty much every record label in the world got in touch going, “Oo can we have that one? Can uh, can we have a bit of that?” And uh, I said "no… you can’t.”

In response to his refusal, the labels told him the song would fall apart, however, Rosenthal proved them wrong, saying:
"They said, “oh well it’ll be a flash in the pan then, you know I’m not sure it’ll go very far. Might get a few streams first few days then it’ll fall apart. Well they were wrong. And I didn’t go with them. I was right and that means I get to keep all the money."
Although he didn’t reveal the exact amount he got, he said the song has over a hundred million streams which we can work out the math for. He said:
"It’s really quite a lot of money, not gonna lie. No point in lying, it’s a short life. You can look at how much money a hundred million streams gets you online probably.”
@tomrosenthalmusic 100 MILLION STREAMS for Home. Truly wild. Thanks for listening!

Note the calculator says it’s a guide only and figures are an estimate, but converted to Australian dollars, this equates to roughly $650,000 (at the time of writing).
Rosenthal actually released the song under the pseudonym 'Edith Whiskers' as he wanted to differentiate his own original music from his covers. The cover of 'Home' was released as a single on October 16, 2020 on a covers album titled, "Stop Stealing the Covers."

We all think that 'seeing is believing', but these brain-hurting illusions from TikTok user beatontehbeeb are making us rethink everything.
His latest video of traffic lights has already had nearly 10 million views and is almost making us see red… with astonishment that is, because there really is no red in the picture. Seriously!
Check it out:

Lots of people didn't want to believe, except for that one commenter who said, "Jokes on you I'm colorblind". Which started a whole conversation in the replies around the different types of colourblindness... but let's not get distracted by that shall we? Here's some more illusions:
Which of these three cars is bigger? Totally obvious right? Think again, because this is an illusion after all.

While one person wrote in response: "me screaming "NO" over and over alone in in my apartment" and plenty of other people were arguing in the comments about the truth, we love the commenter who joked: "The fourth [car] is biggest but it's over the hill so you can't see." We like how their mind works. If you still can't get your brain to make it work, try flipping your phone upside down.
Is your mind broken yet? How about we finish with this cute animal image. But what is it? What do you see? Can you see both?

An English teacher has taken his class on a field trip in a bus fitted with a stripper pole, neon lights and sound system, highlighting a fault in the education system.
Jim Mayers, a teacher at Brooke Charter Schools in Boston, promised his 11th grade class a field trip, but the national bus-driver shortage meant he was unable to source a typical school bus.
Determined to stay true to his word, but with no other options, Mr Mayers managed to hire a pimped-out party bus the day before the outting.
The company, Deluxe Limousine, told Business Insider that this was the first time they'd been contracted by a school.
Mayers initially posted a photo of the interior of the bus to Twitter, where LED lights and a stripper pole could be seen along with some students in the background.
'Due to the national school bus driver shortage, my school has hired a party bus with stripper poles to transport us for a field trip. This is not a drill,' he captioned it.
‘Yes, this is a true story. However, the entire day was in fact a phenomenal experience for all the kids, they didn’t really care about the bus, and a lot of great planning by a lot of great people made for a fantastic day.’
Naturally, the tweet went viral, but Mayers decided to delete it claiming it was distracting from the real education issues.
'Over the past 24 hours, a lot of reporters have messaged me about an interview for a news story regarding the tweet I posted that went viral. While I find the attention amusing, I think it's worth reflecting on why this story, in particular, suddenly demands the voice of a teacher.'
'There have been so many other more important stories about education that have desperately needed the voices of a diverse array of teachers, and for some reason have not asked for them.'
'I'm worried that there is too much attention being paid to the tweet itself, or simply the fact that it went viral, instead of attending to the many systematic issues that are facing not just my students, but students all across the country.'
'I posted a sarcastic tweet about the bus, expecting only a few other teacher friends - and I literally mean 2 or 3 - of mine to see it, but here we are.'

update: I deleted it.

The teacher is being praised by online users for taking a stand against the broken education system in the US, and Mayers hopes this might highlight the lack of prioritization that schools have in America and demonstrate how the nation-wide labour shortage directly affects young students.

Watch the moment Nicole Richie's hair catches fire while blowing out her birthday candles... now that's hot!
During a birthday dinner with friends and family, the Simple Life star can be seen doing the cliche blowing-out-the candles, but as she leans over the cake both sides of her hair catch light.
First it starts as a small spark that Richie laughs off, but then as the flames further ignite you see the real panic emerge.
Posting the video of the dramatic moment to Instagram, Richie humourosly captioned it, "Well… so far 40 is (fire emoji)."
Husband and Good Charlotte front-man, Joel Madden, took the opportunity to reference his wife's Simple Life days with Paris Hilton, commenting 'That's hot."
Others joined in the joking, including Joel's brother, Benjamin Madden.
"Happy Birthday Sis love you and thankful for you always ❤️🎉 stay lit 🔥," Ben commented.
Kelly Rowland admitted her shock, "My heart just dropped!!!" while Paris Hilton later said, “OMFG Happy Birthday Bill! Hope your ok! Love youuuuu”.
Anyway, let's just hope Nicole Richie looks good with a bob hair-cut, cos those ends are gone!
