Still haven't done your gift shopping? That's okay, AusPost are pulling out all the stops to accommodate the Christmas chaos!

From Nov 27 Australia Post outlets will extend their hours and offer twilight delivery to combat the craziness of December.

Exact opening hours can be found by looking up your local post office here.

More than 380 AusPost outlets will be accommodating for the major influx of parcel deliveries across the nation, with this year's estimate set to surpass last year's 52 million parcels delivered in December.

With Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales expected to add a large set of packages to the already overwhelmingly busy Christmas period, Australia Post will also be chartering extra planes, getting more vans out on the road, recruiting extra workers and opening new temporary facilities to combat the chaos.

Rod Barnes, the Executive General Manager of Deliveries at Australia Post said his team are "pulling out all the stops".

“In the last few weeks, we have recruited almost 300 drivers specifically to hit the roads after hours across Melbourne and Perth, and we expect our twilight service to help us deliver an additional 25,000 parcels per day in these two cities alone, so if you hear one of our drivers roll up perhaps just as you’re getting home, don’t be surprised,” he said.

“Many of our Post Offices have also extended their opening times to provide our customers greater flexibility with their sending and receiving in the lead up to the big day.”

Communications Officer, Paul Fletcher, told Sky News that he was impressed with the work of AusPost employees thus far in accommodating the recent 'huge spike in demand' and working around the limited flight schedule of Qantas and Virgin.

To make sure all your goodies arrive in time, Australia Post have released their domestic and international parcel cut-off dates.

If you're sending parcels to/from anywhere in Australia (except WA and NT), the deadline for regular parcel post is 13 December while express post is 20 December.

For those wanting to send some love to their mates in Western Australia or the Northern Territory, regular parcel post needs to be sent by 8 December and express post by 15 December.

For those sending out Christmas cards and letters (nawww), you'll need to work to 20 December for same state deliveries and 16 December for interstate.

If you're planning to send or receive post from overseas, the cut-off dates aren't so concise.

'International Christmas deliveries may be affected by factors beyond our control, like customs delays, overseas postal disruptions, and COVID-19 restrictions in other countries,' says AusPost. 'We recommend sending as early as you can.'

beanie illusion

Is this the blue and black or white and gold dress all over again? A new optical illusion has the internet talking after an interior designer posted a video of her beanie which appears to be two different colours leaving the internet confused about what colour it actually is.

The interior designer posted the video on her account @oteliacarmen with the caption, "Why lighting should be just as important as color/material selections!!." In the video, she shows her "green hat" which actually appears as brown initially until she moves into another area and turns green as described.

She explains in the video that the phenomenon is called "Metamerism" in which is explained by a book by C. Hurren titled, 'Fabric Testing', as "...the colour change seen in a coloured item because of different spectral emissions from different light sources."

"Each light source has its own emission spectrum (colour) so when a light source is projected onto a surface, the surface colour is influenced by the colour of the light. This produces a different colour to the observer for the same item when the light source type is changed."

With 4 million views and over 600K likes at the time of writing, the phenomenon has caught the attention of fellow TikTok users, some relating it to the infamous dress. One user wrote, "It's the dress all over again".

Others confessed their confusion saying, "I just thought it was going to be about her being colorblind but now im just confused." More people said they didn't have time for such a brain breaker, one writing, "Just gona scroll cuz I don't have time to think right now" and, "I can't do this again pls."

Interest in the special beanie has led Otelia to create a series of videos with it and in another video she responded to a comment asking, "What does it look like outside in the sun." In the clip, she wears the beanie inside which appears brown, then walks outside and it remains brown. She explains that when she saw it in the store she thought it was green and when someone commented asking what the tag says, she replied, "No color names, tried to google the brand but this color didn't come up."

She then does a walkthrough of her house walking from room to room to see how the beanie will appear in different light settings.

Otelia goes onto explaining how the science behind the illusion works in her latest video which if you're still confused, is a must watch.
