Elon Musk's recent offer to buy social media network Twitter has been accepted, with the announcement from Twitter confirming Musk will acquire the platform which is valued at approximately $44 billion USD ($61 billion AUD).

In a press release provided by Twitter, it's mentioned Twitter stockholders will receive $54.20 in cash for each share of Twitter common stock that they own upon closing of the transaction. Twitter's Independent Board Chair, Bret Taylor said he believed the decision was the best path forward saying:

"The Twitter Board conducted a thoughtful and comprehensive process to assess Elon's proposal with a deliberate focus on value, certainty, and financing. The proposed transaction will deliver a substantial cash premium, and we believe it is the best path forward for Twitter's stockholders."

Twitter's CEO, Parag Agrawal said about the business:

"Twitter has a purpose and relevance that impacts the entire world. Deeply proud of our teams and inspired by the work that has never been more important."

Musk also shared that he wants to make the social media network 'better than ever' by enhancing it with new features, saying:

"Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated."

"I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it."

The final transaction has been approved by the Twitter Board of Directors and is expected to close this year in 2022, pending approval of Twitter stockholders and confirmation of regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.

Nigella said: “Going to restaurants can be a treat, but for me, the true story of food is told through the cooking we do at home. So, to have the chance to champion home cooks and be given the intimate privilege of being invited into people’s homes to eat their food fills me with gratitude and excitement in equal measure!

“I’m so looking forward to working with Manu too. Although he’s a chef and I’m a home cook, the fact is we both just want to eat good food. I feel I’ve got a lot to learn from him, but just know we’ll have a lot of fun in the process. I can't wait!”

Manu said: “I’m very excited to be sitting back at the head of the MKR table and even more thrilled to have the lovely Nigella Lawson at my side.

“As MKR judges, we make the perfect team with our years of experience in professional and home kitchens respectively. And as lovers of delicious food and a fabulous dinner party, I can promise you we’re also going to have a lot of fun. Bring it on!”

Also joining MKR this season is the award-winning food journalist and TV personality Matt Preston previously seen on Australian televisions as a judge on cooking show rival "Masterchef", while celebrity chefs Colin Fassnidge and Curtis Stone return as guest judges.

The new season of MKR takes the much-loved show back to the original recipe – real people from all over the country, cooking real food in their own homes for the superstar judges and their fellow contestants.

Mattel has created a limited edition Barbie of Queen Elizabeth to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee year, which marks her 70 years on the throne.

The collectible doll has been released on the Queen's 96th birthday - which is actually April 21st - even though it's celebrated in June.

The website listing for the doll says: "Barbie celebrates the longest ruling monarch in British history, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, whose extraordinary reign has seen her lead with an immeasurable devotion to duty and a life of service."

The Barbie is sculpted to look like the Queen, though some Twitter fans think it looks more like Dame Helen Mirren, who played Queen Elizabeth II in the movie The Queen, which earned her an Academy Award.

And there's some extra requests too:

If you were hoping to get your hands on one, bad news. The website listing shows the doll has already sold out, even with a purchase limit of 3 per customer.

We can bet the Queen got a few extra for her grandchildren right?

Anyway, Happy Birthday to the Queen and also thanks for the public holiday!
