Smashed avo. It might already be the tastiest thing since vegemite on toast but producers of the deliciously buttery, fleshy, pear-shaped fruits are determined to track down the Aussie eatery serving the best of the best.
To this end, industry body Avocados Australia has launched the aptly-named Australia's Best Avo Toast Competition.
The contest, which is timed to lead into National Avocado Day on July 31, offers a public relations package promoting the winner's venue to customers valued at $2000.
Cafes and restaurants Australia-wide are being encouraged to promote their variations of sliced, diced and smashed avocado on toasts of all descriptions - although it should be assumed sourdoughs will feature prominently.
Finalists and an overall winner will be chosen on July 27 with industry judges to visit and taste-test entries.

"We know an avocado on toast menu option is a very popular choice for Australians for breakfasts and brunches, and it's a popular choice from a food service business perspective too," said Avocados Australia CEO John Tyas.
"We are seeing so many variations of how avocado is served with different toppings and different breads and can't wait to see all the competition entries."
Cafes and restaurants need to submit a description of their menu item, along with photos of it plated up, by June 30.
The announcement of the competition comes after farmers in Queensland's far north were forced last month to dump thousands of avocados due to their oversupply and rising transport and processing costs.
Avocados Australia chair Jim Kochi said favourable growing conditions, particularly in Western Australia, had resulted in "a fairly high supply of premium and class one avocados".
However there was no suggestion the fruits being sold on shelves were other than 100 per cent Australian grown, he said.

There's no doubt about it a film of this scale you need to see on the big screen, the question now though is when can we binge-watch it over and over again from the comfort of our homes?
Disney+ has told us that Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” will arrive on the service exclusively from June 22nd.
That's an amazingly quick turnaround considering that the Sam Raimi-directed film was released to theatres on May 6 making it only 48 days between the two.
The Doctor Strange sequel has done very well for itself making around $879 million worldwide at the box office.
“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.
The next Marvel mega-hit to make it to cinemas this year will be Taika Waititi’s follow up to Thor Ragnarok called “Thor: Love and Thunder” which hits cinemas on July 8th.

Great Scott Marty the new DeLorean is taking us Back to the Future, and we are loving it!
This week DeLorean Motor Company, Inc. gave us the first complete look at the highly anticipated Alpha5, their all-new EV and we can't help but think of the classic DeLorean made famous by the "Back to the Future" movies.

The new images explore the coupe's exterior and interior, revealing sleek lines, classic louvres, and DeLorean's iconic gull-wing doors.
Imagine that classic pose from the film poster now, with Marty Mcfly half-stepping out of the vehicle looking desperately into his watch and holding his sunglasses above his eyes.
The stunning vehicle aside, the company has also shed light on the dimensions of the car, two of its exterior paint colours, including a launch edition debuting at the Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance in August, and the long-awaited specs.

“If My Calculations Are Correct, When This Baby Hits 88 Miles Per Hour, You're Gonna See Some Serious S***.”
Estimated specifications include a range of 300+ miles, a battery of 100+kWh, and electronically limited top speeds of 155 mph (249km), so no problem hitting that 88mph to engage the flux capacitor and take us on adventures through time. (flux capacitor not included).
“Wait A Minute, Doc. Are You Telling Me You Built A Time Machine...Out Of A DeLorean?”
It's obvious that the car has taken its design cues from the past to inspire the future, the new EV visibly showcases its iconic DNA.
"The Alpha5 is a representation of the past 40 years of DeLorean," said Troy Beetz, Chief Marketing Officer of DeLorean Motor Company. "There was this enormous responsibility to make sure we honoured the history of the DeLorean brand, but an even greater responsibility in curating its future...I think we did both with the Alpha5."

The reveal closes months of excitement and speculation around the new vehicle.
The company's new website features more images, videos and the history of DeLorean including some previously untold stories uncovered from the archives.
There's no doubt that the new car is a beautiful look into where design automotive is heading, but based on its first images are you ready to step in and take it for a spin or will you wait for "future" models?
Who knows, the next one could live up to the line from the movie “Roads? Where We’re Going, We Don’t Need Roads.”
Rumours are already buzzing that because of the launch of the new car, the film studios are going to be working overtime on a reboot of the franchise.
But for now, let's just live in the past for a second and take in the classic trailer from the 1985 film starring Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd
