Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak™ May Digital Event Debuts Fierce New Monsters, Combat Options, and Follower Quests Alongside New Trailer

During today’s Monster Hunter™ Digital Event, series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Yoshitake Suzuki provided fans with the most in-depth look at Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak™ yet, including an action-packed new trailer and game details.

The duo unveiled three additional monsters, the new Switch Skill Swap ability, the new Follower Quests, and more information about the flagship Elder Dragon Malzeno.

Finally, they revealed a stunning new Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Nintendo Switch™ Pro Controller featuring Malzeno, which arrives alongside the massive expansion when it releases for Nintendo Switch™ on June 30, 2022.

Known as the “thousand-edged dragon”, the Flying Wyvern Seregios makes a triumphant return in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.

This incredibly territorial combatant is known for its high-flying maneuvers and incredibly sharp Bladescales coating its body. Hunters caught unaware when Seregios sheds its scales run the risk of receiving the “bleed” status, so they should keep their weapons sharp and their wits sharper.

In addition to returning monsters receiving new abilities and behaviours when appearing in Master Rank quests, two new subspecies for monsters introduced in Monster Hunter Rise will be arriving in the expansion.

The newly unveiled Aurora Somnacanth releases a constant chilling mist that threatens to freeze anything that gets too close.

This adaptation allows it to smoothly glide across the ice to strike prey, and exhale a powerful ice breath. Magma Almudron on the other hand prefers the intense heat of the Lava Caverns and augments its attacks with molten stone to overwhelm any would-be hunters.

While all of these monsters are more than capable of bringing hunters to their knees, the Elder Dragon Malzeno has the capacity to bring entire kingdoms crumbling down.

Malzeno commands a mysterious swarm of parasitic entities that capture and then absorb the energy of their prey.

When engaging directly in combat, the Elder Dragon attacks with elegance and ferocity worthy of its inspiration, the vampire.

Once it inflicts its prey with the “bloodblight” status, the two begin a duel to determine whose life force will run out first.

Should the hunter fail, Malzeno evolves into an even more terrible form to wreak havoc on their surviving foes.

In order to meet these calamitous forces head-on, hunters who arrive at Elgado Outpost will need to find new ways to approach combat.

While Kamura village is renowned for its unique Wirebug techniques, including Silkbind Attacks and Wyvern Riding, hunters summoned to the Kingdom will learn new Switch Skills and also have the ability to use the new Switch Skill Swap ability.

Switch Skill Swap enables hunters to assign Switch Skills to two different load-outs which can be changed on the fly during a hunt.

The added flexibility of choosing which skills are best for any situation allows a practised hunter to overcome almost any obstacle.

Hunters who find themselves under attack while performing a Switch Skill Swap can also perform a Swap Evade in any direction to avoid danger, or reposition for a continued assault.

Hunters interested in learning more about the new Switch Skills coming in each of the 14 weapon types should head to the official Monster Hunter social channels starting on May 16 to catch a series of short videos exploring each weapon.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak also introduces new ways for players to bond with the game’s charming cast of characters through new Follower Quests.

These single player hunts allow players to accept and complete quests with their favourite story characters.

Each Follower has their own specialization, and will even assist players by recovering their health, placing traps, and even riding monsters to turn the tide of battle.

Members of Elgado Outpost such as Fiorayne, Luchika, Jae, Admiral Galleus, and Master Arlow will be accessible as Followers, in addition to members of Kamura Village such as Hinoa and Minoto.

Players will unlock Followers as they progress through the story, and can even earn exclusive rewards for completing Follower Quests.

The expansion will include an all-new storyline with more new monsters, new additions to combat, the Master Rank quest difficulty, and more.

The Division 2 is alive and well with a solid online player base and regular new content, plus look out for the May weekend where you'll be able to jump in for free to check it out.

Check out how far the game has come here.

A New Enemy Emerges in Season 9: The latest season continues The Division narrative and brings agents back to the aftermath of their takedown of a former Division commander-turned-traitor.

A new target, Captain Lewis, is out there and the Division must gather intel and face four high-ranking True Sons before they can face him. Season 9 is one of three seasons scheduled to run throughout the year.

New Eight-Player Co-op Mode: Countdown is a new and intense co-op mode where up to eight Division agents are sent to a power plant and have 15 minutes to stabilize the plant and prevent a lockdown. The agents, deployed in two teams of four, will start at different locations on the map and must work together to overcome the challenge. The Division will be confronted by some familiar foes and will have to fend them off to secure the plant, then call for extraction before time runs out.

New Feature – Expertise: Starting May 12, the Expertise feature gives players a new way to improve their equipment with upgrades to base values such as damage, armour and skill stats. Players can increase their Expertise by using any item in the game. Using more varied items means increasing their level. Expertise also allows players to increase the base stats of each individual item and reach a new power ceiling.

It's like a fine wine that just gets better with each season.

One game I lock in every year for release day is the Fifa franchise. I don’t care that it has minimal changes to last season, it’s just my personal vice that I allow myself for the game that I play more than any other title. It’s my go-to game and rarely do I delve into other sports as football is my life.

One of those rare occasions is the NBA games that I usually load just to try out and on this occasion, I’ve journeyed into the world of Major League Baseball for the latest instalment MLB The Show 22 on the PlayStation 5. The game is also released on Nintendo Switch and the Xbox via its Game Pass service but I was excited to review a sports title on the PS5 just to see how far the system has come in its short lifespan.

The tutorials will show you through every aspect of the game, even if you know very little of the sport in general and the thing you’ll find is that there are nuances to the game that only true fans will know that help you to win. The good news is that MLB The Show will teach you everything you need to know and getting there is half the fun. Choose how experienced you are with the game right from the outset, it will determine just how much control you have and if you are just starting out beginner is a lot like an “Arcade Mode”.

Diamond Dynasty is this franchise’s version of Ultimate Team and you collect your card collection through playing the game or by buying card packs through in-game purchases. The better or rarer the cards you have the better team you can field but watch out for your wallet on this highly addictive mode of the game.

Co-operative play is the real standout of the game. Play as either 2V2 or 3V3, the game alternates turns so that you aren’t sitting in the dugout bored for too long. It’s a strong multiplayer title as you can also face off against your mates using cross-platform and also cross-progression which is great.

Some games of Baseball can go on for what seems like forever, so the team have added a “Mini Season” mode which gives your three-inning games in a 28 games season. For me, this is the perfect way to play through a season and keep it fun and fresh.

If playing full seasons in a career mode is more your thing then “Road to Show” mode is where you can play out season after season building your team with new drafts and managing their progression. It’s in this mode you can also create your own rookie player and work your way up through the leagues. This is how I like to play Fifa, but with MLB I was more of a fan of the shorter faster games. If choosing between this mode or “March to October” where you play the key moments on the way to the World Series, I’d choose the latter.

Commentary can make or break a sports title and the team on this are fantastic. You might hear the same thing multiple times, but name a sports title that you don’t. Jon “Boog” Sciambi and Chris Singleton have a strong partnership in the game with apparently around 450,000 lines of audio. Although both are experienced commentators there is the hope that with some years under their belts doing this game that the voice over can be added significantly.

The gameplay feels quite free-flowing, moving along quickly between sections to make sure you are getting the most out of playing the game rather than just watching cut scenes. Graphicly it’s pretty remarkable. In titles like Fifa, you are a fair distance from the players to actually take in just how far the body movement and realism have progressed over the years. In MLB you are up close and personal so you can see every minor detail. It’s a truly impressive experience and shows off the leaps and bounds in sports titles as well as the console generation.

MLB The Show 22 is a great all-rounder sports title that gives you solid single and outstanding multiplayer. It’s the baseball fan’s “FIFA” and worth jumping into over and over again to put in that All-Star Performance.

Nintendo Switch Sports – the latest game in the Wii Sports series – is out now for Nintendo Switch.

The collection includes Football (Soccer), Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, Badminton and Chambara (swordplay), players can use Joy-Con controllers to swing, kick, spike and bowl their way to victory. Plus, Golf is planned to be added as a seventh sport via a free update at a later date.

Play solo, or with family and friends who can join in locally on the same console or online. Players can also compete online against randomly selected opponents near and far, and aim for the Pro League in every sport.

So how do they do a Wii sports without the technology from the Wii? I mean that was pretty vital to the way that that game worked right? Well, it turns out those Joy-Con controllers make it all possible by using real-world movements to perform tasks like curving a bowling ball, adding spin to a tennis shot – or even using a Joy-Con with the Leg Strap accessory (included with the physical version of the game here), to kick the ball in a Football Shoot-Out.

Look out for a free software update that will add Leg Strap compatibility for Football matches. This collection of sports is designed for players of all skill levels, so anyone can play and enjoy exciting sports matches together.

The Hewitt family are on board. In the official commercial, Lleyton Hewitt and his son, Cruz, use real-world movements to challenge each other in Nintendo Switch Sports. You may have seen this spot across Australian social media sites this month.

Nintendo Switch Sports introduces new customisable characters called Sportsmates.

As players compete online in random matchmaking, they’ll be able to earn points that they can redeem for in-game rewards like outfits, sports accessories and gear for their Sportsmates.

New items will rotate each week, so it’s worth checking back regularly to see what’s available. Players will also be able to play as the classic Mii characters stored in their Nintendo Switch console.
