Sorry IKEA. We don't deserve your Swedish meatballs and allen keys.
We all have that friend who pronounces simple words incorrectly. Specific becomes pacific, ask is arks and espresso comes out as expresso.
However, we're now all guilty of the mispronounciation crime, with a beloved brand name becoming the latest victim.
Turns out we've been saying IKEA wrong this whole time.
Youtuber @MacDoesIt took to Twitter with the revelation.
So IKEA is pronounced like (EE-key-uh) not (EYE-key-uh) and no one was gonna tell me?
— mac (@MacDoesIt) October 11, 2021
IKEA is not eye-key-ah like we once had thought, but instead ee-kay-uh.
Commenting on his post, a Swede joined the conversation with a video of the actual pronounciation.

An IKEA spokesperson confirmed the life-shaking news to Quartz
"IKEA is an acronym for the founder's name, Ingvar Kamprad; the name of his family farm, Elmtaryd; and the location of that farm, in the village of Agunnaryd, in Småland, Sweden."
"When Ingvar founded IKEA in 1943, he of course pronounced it with a typical Swedish accent: Eee-KEH-Yah."
The Swedish furniture store first arrived in Australia in 1975 - so yep, we've been mispronouncing it for 46 years.
i'm not gonna pronounce it that way even if that's true. eye-key-a for life

Do you think the actual phonetics are going to stick? I'm - sorry, Ee'm - not so sure.

Bonza is coming to Australia in 2022 (Image: AAP Image/ Getty, Southern Lightscapes-Australia)
Australia will get a new domestic airline from early next year when Bonza expects to take to the skies, taking advantage of an expected boom in air travel in a post-pandemic world.
Bonza, which is backed by a US investment firm and headed by ex-Virgin Blue executive Tim Jordan, is promising "ultra low prices" to travel around the country in 2022.
"Bonza's mission is to encourage more travel by providing more choices and ultra-low fares, particularly into leisure destinations where travel is now often limited to connections via major cities," CEO and founder Mr Jordan said.
Bonza's ambition is broad but it appears there will be a focus on regional communities, with new routes in the wings.
Mr Jordan has more than 25 years of experience in the aviation industry and recently was managing director of FlyArystan, the first low-cost carrier in Central Asia.
US investment firm 777 Partners is backing Bonza, which subject to regulatory approval expects to launch services in early 2022 with Boeing 737-8 aircraft.
"We see huge potential in the Australian market to deliver the benefits and options that an independent low fare airline brings," 777 Partners managing partner Josh Wander said in a statement.
Bonza will sport white and purple livery on its aircraft and plans to base its headquarters in regional Australia, with the exact location yet to be revealed.

Watch the incredible moment a woman pulls of her prosthetic leg and uses it like a glove to catch a home run.
Shannon Frendeis, a leg amputee, has made history while attending a baseball game between the Chicago White Socks and the Detroit Tigers.
Allegedly 'five beers in', Shannon somehow still had fast enough reflexes to whip off her prosthetic leg and use it as a glove to catch a home run flying her way.
She posted a video of the amazing moment to her Instagram and TikTok accounts with the caption, "Five beers in, and taking my leg off to catch a ball seemed like a great idea."

It's made with a generous helping of cheese and rich vegemite, and it's domino's newest "original recipe" pizza. The Cheesy Vegemite Pizza is limited edition so is only around for 3 weeks or until it sells out.
Adding a flavour like Vegemite to a Pizza base is something that sounds iconically Australian. But is a whole pizza of the bitter topping just going too far?
After all part of the appeal and even a rule of thumb for the breakfast spread is to have it in moderation, lightly spread over a sandwich or piece of toast. But one of the funniest things is watching someone whos never had it before spread it on as thick as peanut butter and the glorious reaction that follows when they take their first bite.
Dominos Australia said on an Instagram post "There's something so quintessentially Aussie about a VEGEMITE and cheese pizza, and we're excited to be able to offer this unique combination to 'HAPPY LITTLE VEGEMITES' right here at home.
The concept came about after the Pizza giant received large numbers of requests asking for the combination when they posted saying "would you give this a try". It turns out it was a resounding YES and now hungry Aussies can finally try it for themselves and find out if their taste buds agree with 12,000 comments and 30,000 likes.
VEGEMITE this week appointed a new ambassador, Giovanni from Rosa’s Pizza in New York, who has added the iconic taste of Australia to his menu. Domino’s ANZ Chief Marketing Officer Adam Ballesty said it’s only fitting that we return Australia’s favourite flavour to the heartland and ensure everyone can share in the joy of this perfect pairing.
“It’s great to see Americans enjoying what we here in Oz know to be true – that VEGEMITE can go on just about anything!
“There’s something so quintessentially Aussie about a VEGEMITE and cheese pizza, and we’re excited to be able to offer this unique combination to customers right here at home,” Mr Ballesty said.
“To this day, we still receive messages from customers asking us to make this combination a reality and at Domino’s… we always deliver!”
You can get one for around $7.95 but if you want a Vegan Cheesy Vegemite Pizza it's $2.95 extra and probably worth ordering online as it's a bit of a tongue twister.
Let's hope it puts a rose in every cheek.
