Acting GWS captain Toby Greene kicked a monster 67-metre goal and got reported as the Giants condemned AFL battlers Carlton to a season-high 36-point AFL loss.
Five straight goals either side of halftime propelled GWS to a 39-point lead on their way to a 16.6 (102) to 9.12 (66) win at Giants Stadium, which lifted them one spot to ninth and within two points of eighth-placed Richmond.
Carlton, who slumped to a third straight loss and are being subjected to a mid-season review by an external panel, looked toothless in the first half kicking just three goals.
They showed much more fight and better ball movement after the early stages of the third quarter.
They kicked four straight goals and got to within 12 points in the third and fourth quarters, but fell away badly in the final stages, a depressingly familiar pattern for Carlton fans.
Key forward Harry McKay, who didn't touch the ball in the first quarter and just twice to halftime, was prominent in the Blues fightback, kicking. 3.2, a few days after the Coleman Medal leader signed a contract extension.
But GWS had more weaponry up forward and kicked five of the last six goals.
Jeremy Finlayson kicked five goals and Greene four.
Greene sent the majority of the small crowd into raptures after the first quarter siren, when he hit the target with a booming kick from just inside the centre circle.
Greene was reported for striking Nic Newman in an off the ball incident early in the third quarter.
He appeared to make contact with Newman's ribs in an off the ball incident, though it didn't seem to be too heavy.
Midfield bulls Jacob Hopper and Tim Taranto were very productive and effective for GWS.
Underlining McKay's lack of early impact, he took a mark inside the Blues forward 50, but fumbled the ball over the boundary line after he played on quickly.
All of Carlton's first three goals came from free kicks awarded to Matthew Owies and Lachie Fogarty in the first quarter, and McKay in the second.
GWS made 37 more tackles and proven tagger Matt de Boer limited the influence of Carlton's midfield big guns Sam Walsh and Patrick Cripps. though each won 11 contested possessions.
Eddie Betts tallied just five touches and was held goalless, while former Giant Zac Williams tallied just 11 touches.
Adding to the Giants' pleasure were first AFL goals for both Isaac Cumming and Kieren Briggs, with the former doing it in his 23rd game and the latter in just his second.
Owies kicked two goals, the fifth time this season he has booted two or more in a game.

NSW has recorded two new locally acquired COVID-19 cases bringing the cluster linked to a shopping centre in the city's eastern suburbs to six.
A woman in her 40s and a man in his 50s both visited the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre, with the man's case reported yesterday.
NSW Health was also notified overnight of a new locally acquired case, a 30-year-old man, that will be included in Sunday's numbers.
A 60-year-old limousine driver is thought to be the source of the outbreak of the highly transmissible Delta strain, NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said on Saturday.
"This Delta virus would appear to be a near and present danger to anybody who is in the vicinity," he told reporters.
"It is a virus that is very capable of transmitting even when we have very fleeting proximity between the individual who is infectious and any of us who might be passing by."
The new cases come a day after Sydneysiders were ordered to wear face masks on public transport until Thursday and Queensland and Tasmania tightened border restrictions for people travelling from NSW hot spots.
Four new overseas-acquired cases were also recorded overnight, bring the total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 5448.
There were 26,631 tests reported to 8pm Friday night, compared with the previous day's total of 21,678.
NSW Health administered a record 17,763 COVID-19 vaccines in the 24 hours to 8pm Friday night, including 6222 at the vaccination centre at Sydney Olympic Park.
The new cases come after an unvaccinated limousine driver from Sydney's east and his wife were diagnosed with the virus and subsequently infected a woman in her 70s at a Vaucluse cafe.
The driver transported international air crews.
NSW Health on Saturday evening listed a number of potential new COVID-19 exposure sites including Fitness First gyms on Pitt Street and Bond Street in the Sydney CBD, Salvos Stores in Tempe, and a Baby Bunting outlet in Shellharbour in the Illawarra.
Other new sites of concern in Sydney include Chemist Warehouse stores in Pitt Street, Oxford Street and Bondi Junction; Aldi and Coles supermarkets at Eastgate Bondi Junction; Woolworths at Pitt Street Mall; Square Sandwiches on George Street and Baker's Delight at Wynyard Station.
Anyone who attended these venues at the listed times and dates must get tested and self-isolate immediately.
A full list of potential exposure sites is available by visiting www.health.nsw.gov.au.
Western Australia and South Australia have shut the border for those who have attended NSW virus exposure sites, while Victoria has tightened restrictions for residents of the City of Sydney, Waverley and Woollahra council areas.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed on Friday that quarantine-free travel will continue with NSW for the time being.

It took a stern half-time address from milestone man Chris Fagan to inspire Brisbane to grind their way past North Melbourne and maintain their spot in the AFL's top-four with a 23-point win in Hobart.
Lincoln McCarthy provided a spark in attack as Jarryd Lyons, Hugh McCluggage, Zac Bailey and Lachie Neale did much of the grunt work around the packs in the Lions' 9.14 (68) to 6.9 (45) victory on Saturday night.
McCarthy stepped up in big moments, kicking the second of his two goals at the start of the final term to give Brisbane valuable breathing space in a low-scoring affair.
It came after they hit the front through Eric Hipwood's huge contested mark and kick for goal during time-on of the third quarter.
The Lions held North to just two goals in the second half as they dominated contested possession, clearances and forward entries after the main break.
Speaking to Fox Footy post-match, Neale described Fagan's message as a "little bit of a bake" and admitted the Lions were slow to find their rhythm on the back of last week's bye.
"I don't know if it was a bake," Fagan said in his post-match press conference.
"We had a strong talk about where we were at and the fact that we hadn't done as well at clearances as we needed to, particularly at centre-bounce.
"We might have been in front but we weren't really getting any metreage from those clearances, so we needed to go to work on that.
"Sometimes the players need a bit of a wake-up.
"We just had a couple of weeks off and that can be a little bit challenging at times.
"But it was a good game tonight just to prepare us for Thursday night against Geelong and that's going to be a tough test."
Small forward Charlie Cameron had just five kicks but finished with 2.3 in a dangerous cameo for the Lions, whose win gave Fagan an even 50-50 record after 100 games at the helm.
The 59-year-old reached the milestone in his first showdown with Kangaroos counterpart David Noble, his former right-hand man.
North's Nick Larkey was an aerial threat in attack before halftime and kicked two goals in a run of four straight to help give the Kangaroos the upper hand early in the second term.
But the tall forwards lost their point of difference after the main break as heavy rain fell and turned a scrappy contest into an out-and-out slugfest.
Larkey finished with three majors and Cam Zurhaar two as Ben Cunnington and Jy Simpkin worked hard for a Kangaroos midfield unit that was overpowered in the end.
Kangaroos vice-captain Luke McDonald returned from a long lay-off with a pectoral injury and got through his first full game of the season, finishing with 17 disposals on a wing.

Geelong captain Joel Selwood is free to play in Thursday night's AFL blockbuster against Brisbane despite being charged with two offences by the match review officer.
Selwood was hit with fines for misconduct and rough conduct in separate incidents that occurred during the Cats' thrilling five-point win over the Western Bulldogs on Friday night.
He can accept $1000 and $2000 fines respectively for early guilty pleas.
In the first incident, Selwood pushed his fist into Bailey Dale's head as the Bulldogs defender was pinned on the ground in a tackle.
Later, Selwood put his hand in Taylor Duryea's face and stumbled over his leg when the former Hawk had fallen to the ground after taking a mark.
The long-time Geelong skipper was one of his team's most important players against the Bulldogs with 29 disposals, 10 clearances, six tackles and a goal.
The Cats won the match when Gary Rohan kept his cool to kick the winning goal after the siren.
It set up a huge contest against Brisbane at the Gabba on Thursday night, with both sides attempting to press their claims for a spot in the top-two.
