The 16th of February celebrates National Tim Tam Day and it’s been revealed what Australia’s favourite Tim Tam flavour is. Arnott’s have done some research and have settled the age-old flavour debate.
The research found that the Original Tim Tam is Australia’s favourite flavour with Chewy Caramel following in second place. Original topped the survey with 37% of votes, followed by Chewy Caramel (14%), Double Coat (13.55%), Dark Chocolate (13.02%), Choc Mint (10%) and finally White Chocolate (9%).
As well as revealing Australia’s favourite flavour, the survey also revealed some interesting facts based on each state. Victorians preferred Dark Chocolate over Chewy Caramel with 15% of the votes as well as NSW, with 14% of votes towards Dark Chocolate slightly above Chewy Caramel with 13%. Western Australian's preferred Double Coat ahead of Chewy Caramel with 13% and South Australian's preferred Choc Mint coming in second place with 17%.
Arnott’s also partnered with scientists to show us what happens to the brain when we eat Tim Tams and why we love them so much. Tim Tam teamed up with Australia’s best QEEG and Brain Mapping experts to measure what happens in the brain before and after you bite into a Tim Tam.
Tim Lucas, Neurologist at the Neurofeedback Centre, said about the experience, “When the brain is aroused and actively engaged in mental activities, it generates beta waves. These waves tend to sit on a relatively low amplitude but move the fastest and at a higher frequency. So, when our minds are vastly engaged or highly aroused, a spike in beta waves will be a sign of that.
“When Arnott’s told us about their yet-to-be-launched and most indulgent Tim Tam range ever, we were curious to understand what indulging in one might do to Aussie brains. We entered the experiment quite doubtful we’d see drastic results that might indicate pleasure. So, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that smelling a Tim Tam Deluxe – let alone biting into one – quite literally lit up the brains and activated the high beta waves in ways we’d never seen before, in every one of the clients we tested.”
The study also went deeper into Australia’s favourite ways to indulge with a poll revealing 47% would choose to devour a pack of Tim Tam biscuits over having an alcoholic beverage. Interestingly, more than a third of Aussies (37%) would prefer a pack of Tim Tams over cuddling their pets and over a quarter (30%) would rather slam a Tim Tam than cuddle their child or loved ones.
It comes after Arnott’s released their new Tim Tam Deluxe Range earlier in the year with four decadent and extra gooey flavours. The four flavours Decadent Triple Choc, Salted Caramel Brownie, Dark Chocolate Raspberry Tart and Dark Choc Mint are available at all major grocery stores in the biscuit aisle and retail for $4.50.
